One of the New MS Treatments: Perfect App for Anyone Living with Multiple Sclerosis

MyTherapy rated three apps as ideal for people living with MS in June of 2018. The conclusion:  BeCare Link is a perfect app, and is one of the new MS treatments. The author Dan Brown elaborates below:

“If you are living with Multiple Sclerosis, you are no doubt familiar with the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) and Functional Systems Score (FSS). Both quantitative measures track changes and progress of disability over time.

The EDSS rating (from 0-10, in 0.5 increments) is issued by a neurologist based on tests relating to eight functional systems:

• pyramidal (weakness or difficulty moving limbs)

• cerebellar (ataxia, loss of coordination or tremor)

• brainstem (problems with speech, swallowing, and nystagmus)

• sensory (numbness or loss of sensation)

• bowel and bladder function

• visual function

• cerebral function

• other

What does this have to do with an app? Well, BeCare Link – a company that utilizes data solutions and artificial intelligence to help manage disease treatment – believes its app can help provide a greater level of detail to clinicians treating people with MS.”

The author expands on the benefits that BeCare Link delivers to users:

“The app is unique is what it aims to achieve: to empower people with MS to generate symptom-specific data that helps them understand their disease, while providing useful information to neurologists.

Using machine learning to predict disease progression is also a fascinating area of research, and multiple sclerosis is one of the diseases that could greatly benefit from advancements in this field. If the app helps progress that research, the benefits are clear to see.”
